As a model for all in the world, the daughter of a wealthy and famous tycoon from Southern Vietnam, Nguyen Huu Thi Lan, one of the first Vietnamese girls to have access to Western education in France, ascended to the throne as Queen on March 20, 1934. Who could match the wealth of her family when the King chose her, still suspected of being a "gold digger"? Who could be more prestigious and noble than a Queen? However, the life of such a model for all was filled with unexpected ups and downs.
She was rich, and she was prestigious, but she experienced loneliness to an extent unimaginable. In a shattered and cold marriage, she felt unease as she had to take care of five children alone, far from her homeland, to a remote and secluded place in Phu Lang Sa, where she found solace in farming and livestock...
In reality, there were moments during my journey to visit her grave and her old house, and even as I complete this video, I find myself wondering if she chose to take the princes and princesses to that remote place simply because she desired a private and peaceful life, or was it for the safety of her children, as the political turmoil of the times outside did not truly put her at ease?
Reflecting on life, I fondly remember the words of the ancient poet Tien Dien and remind myself:
"Why care about the realm's fortune!
In the prime of youth, beauty fades, and the rosy cheeks wither."
