Santana - Hope You're Feeling Better

Santana - Hope You're Feeling Better, On this date in 1970, SANTANA landed their first #1 album with their second studio album, ABRAXAS (Oct 24, 1970). The title of the album originates from a line in Hermann Hesse's book Demian, quoted on the album's back cover: "We stood before it and began to freeze inside from the exertion. We questioned the painting, berated it, made love to it, prayed to it: We called it mother, called it whore and slut, called it our beloved, called it Abraxas...." (Sep 23, 1970)

At the dawn of the 1970s, this unorthodox mix of rock, jazz, salsa, and blues proved quite successful. Whether adding rock elements to salsa king Tito Puente's "Oye Como Va," embracing instrumental jazz-rock on "Incident at Neshabur" and "Samba Pa Ti," or tackling moody blues-rock on Fleetwood Mac's "Black Magic Woman," the band kept things unpredictable yet cohesive. NOTE: The video here is Santana performing the album track and single HOPE YOU'RE FEELING BETTER at Filimore West, the historic rock and roll music venue in San Francisco, California, US which became famous under the direction of concert promoter Bill Graham from 1968 to 1971 (Jul 4, 1971) I've re-edited and improved the color of this concert clip.

The eighth track and third single from 'Abraxas', “Hope You’re Feeling Better” was written by the band’s singer Gregg Rolie and released as a single in 1971. The song opens with four bars of organ riff. The lyrics describe how a character tries to change their lifestyle but ends up losing their child, moving town and losing their friends. As well as Abraxas, this song appears on several compilations; “Santana’s Greatest Hits”, “The Definitive Collection” and “The Best of Santana Vol. 2”. The song has also been recorded by British band Mother Earth (1992 single).
